spacerWelcome to the web site of Annie Barnett designer - maker of hand-crafted jewellery

Annie has celtic roots and, of equal importance, is her childhood, part of which was spent in The East. These cultural experiences have had a profound influence upon her life, her artistic vision and design sense.

Annie started her professional training at Burslem College Of Art in 1974. She then went on to complete her BA (hons) degree in Jewellery & Silversmithing 1975-78 in Sheffield. After that, she then worked in Manchester for a designer jewellers for 3 years doing special orders and repairs.

In 1981, Annie went into partnership with a former college pal, and set up in business as "Two Jewellers", supplying many famous retail stores with hand-made fashion jewellery.

Children came along and the business ended!

1993 saw Annie starting up again, but, this time, on her own. Since then, she has been extremely successful and has sold her work throughout the U.K. as well as in America, Germany, Holland , Norway and Japan.

Annie has been making her jewellery for 28 years, creating unique and exciting designs.
Each item is hand-crafted in her studio workshop (lovingly built by her husband Andy) set in the Sheffield hills. Her tools and skills are pure tradition, but her designs are contemporary, playing metallic surfaces off against one another and setting individually selected, semi-precious stones to form a harmonious whole.

Annie's work is certainly not the usual bland product of mass production. Each piece takes time, great skill and loving care to produce and there are no two pieces the same, each bearing the marks of hand craftsmanship.

Workshop

The ear wires are all .925 silver. Sometimes she draws the ear wire so that it becomes integral to the piece. The Main materials she uses are: brass, copper and pewter. These metals (along with the more famous steel) have a long tradition in Sheffield. In fact her workshop is built on a historic site of quarrying, mining and smelting.

She also produces, with the help of Andy, a unique range of prints based around her designs. She now works in collaboration with Andy, who has created his own jewellery range using freshwater pearls and semi precious stones. This is not to mention his own hand-finished greetings cards. These have been bought by The Tate Gallery, The Ruskin Foundation and The Wordsworth Fellowship
His own web site will be appearing very soon and there will be a link posted here..

Buying Annie's jewellery means that you will own a piece of art work that is unique, unlike any other made and your purchase will help to ensure that Annie continues in her craft, a rare woman and artist devoted to this beautiful work.
